Starpop: Kpop’s Tamagotchi

An app that I’ve rather recently become addicted to is Starpop.

When I first looked at it, I was really hesitant to even download it because I figured I’d either lose interest right quick or I’d be absolute pants at playing it.  However, here I am about a month or so later and doing fairly well actually.

The whole premise of the game is that you get to take care of an idol.  It’s sort of like a Tamagotchi with better graphics/mechanics and kpop idols! They are starting to add more idols to the game but as of now you can pick from anyone in Super Junior, B.A.P, CNBLUE, EXO, NCT, SHINee, TVXQ, and Super Junior-M.  I naturally picked Yonghwa from CNBLUE as my first idol.  After awhile I had amassed enough gems to get a second slot for an idol and decided on Heechul from Super Junior.  I got my third idol just a week ago and chose Jongup from B.A.P.Starpop Screenshot

While playing this game, you get to take care of your chosen idol(s) by cooking for them, scheduling various activities to earn currency (beans), doing activities with them to increase your friendship/intimacy level, etc.  You even get to plant seeds and grow food to use when cooking, though I am still a bit unsure how exactly one grows red wine but I’m not going to complain as it’s a pretty rare ingredient to get!

Beans go a long way in Starpop.  They allow you to do activities with your idols, purchase different outfits and hair colors, buy decorations and whatnot for your idol’s living room, and a whole host of other things.  Be careful of your spending though because in the beginning it’s a bit slow going getting beans and it’ll only get harder to manage the more idols you buy.

So why play this app? Not gonna lie, it will take over your life XD.  It’s really fun and once you reach intimacy level 10 your idol will ask for your name!  If this is the only way I get to see my favorite idol(s) saying my name then so be it.  Did I mention that the idols talk sometimes once you’ve reached intimacy level 8 or so?  Yonghwa and Jongup are all Korean still but Heechul will say some English.  It’s a really cute game and a fun way to interact with your friends while taking care of your idols.  I’m really looking forward to more updates so they can fix the more irritating bugs and add more idols to choose from!
