Jujutsu is a Japanese style of martial arts known for its close combat and short sword techniques. Ju is translated to “gentle, soft, supple, flexible, pliable or yielding” as Justu is translated to “art” or “technique” which uses the opponents force against themselves.
Jujutsu uses a short weapon or no weapon at all. This style of martial arts uses enemy strikes of pins, joint locks and throws which were developed to use the attackers energy against them rather then opposing it. These techniques were centered around hand-to-hand combat and focused heavily on throwing, immobilizing, joint locks and chocking as striking techniques were ineffective towards someone wearing armor. Jujutsu was taught for counterattacking long weapons such as swords and spears.
There are many type of variations of the art of Jujutsu with schools teaching grappling, throwing, trapping, joint locks, holds, biting, striking and kicking. As you have probably seen forms of jujutsu in the Olympic called Judo.
The next question is have you or will you be trying Jujutsu in the furture? It’s a great work out and awesome for your body as lots of famous idols have added jujutsu to there daily work out such as Seungri of BIGBANG, Chuck Norris, Demi Lovato and others.
