So I definitely didn’t know this until recently, but Loco has done OSTs for several different dramas! For anyone who doesn’t know, OST means “Original Soundtrack” and are songs written specifically for a drama. I was really excited to dig into them as soon as I realized he had done OSTs.
The Virus – The Virus OST
The Virus is a 10 episode drama aired in 2013 on OCN. It starred Um Ki-joon, Lee So-jung, Lee Ki-woo, and Wonder Girls’ Yubin who made her acting debut. Um Ki-joon plays Lee Myung-hyun, the leader of a disease task force. A mutant disease is ravaging the nation and the task force has been tasked with finding the antidote and stopping the epidemic from spreading. Oh and did I mention……the disease has a 100% fatality rate and kills the victim within three days!
This song has me so hyped up; I am absolutely ready to go to war. I am ready to go hunt down a disease and completely wipe it from history. The song is so upbeat with the right amount of intensity to give the listener a sense of urgency and a deep urge to go out and do something.
This Song – My Lovely Girl OST
My Lovely Girl aired in 2014 and rain for 16 episodes. Starring Rain, Krystal, Infinite’s L, and actress Cha Ye-ryun, My Lovely Girl is a romance drama centered around the kpop industry. Rain plays Lee Hyun-wook, the CEO of a talent agency who struggles to let go of his ex-girlfriend who died three years previously. Yoon Se-na (Krystal) is the sister of his ex-girlfriend who is hoping to become a composer. The two become closer and slowly help each other heal from their traumatic pasts.
Loco and MAMAMOO is one of my favorite collaboration pairings. I love Hwasa and Loco together and hearing their voices combined with Wheein, Solar, and Moonbyul is really soothing. This song brings a smile to my face whenever I listen to it.
Star (Little Prince) – Memories of the Alhambra OST
Running for 16 episodes from 2018 to 2019, Memories of the Alhambra is one of Korea’s highest rated dramas in television history. It stars Park Sin-hye, Hyun Bin and EXO’s Chanyeol and the title of the drama was inspired by Francisco Tárrega’s Recuerdos de la Alhambra. Yoo Jin-woo (Hyun Bin) receives an email about a groundbreaking new AR game developed by Jung Se-Joo (Chanyeol). Se-Joo ends up missing and his sister Hee-jo ends up tangled up in a series of mysterious circumstances with Jin-woo.
Star (Little Prince) is such a floating song. It has an almost mythical air about it and could almost be a song for a video game. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song more suited for a drama than this one. Loco balances out U Seungeun’s floating vocals very well and the contrast makes for a beautiful song.
Loco has also done an OST for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo with Punch called Say Yes and an OST for The Girl Who Sees Smells with GFRIEND’s Yuju called Spring is Gone By Chance.
I’m looking forward to hearing more of Loco in future OSTs and I can’t wait to see what other dramas he will end up lending his incredible talent to!
