When Produce 101 came onto the scene, it was already highly anticipated. Creating a competition program with 101 female trainees and small idol group members from a multitude of entertainment companies was no small matter. Especially since they were coming together to create a small super group to temporarily promote together. Chungha was one of the first to take part in this new program. Performing songs and dance routines to powerhouse pop divas like Beyoncé, Jessie J, and Nicki Minaj, Chungha proved that she could take on anything.
It didn’t take long for fans to take notice. With her ability to transition from one style of music to another flawlessly, she climbed the ranks and managed to secure the fourth place spot in the end. Being so highly ranked, she had the chance to debut with the female “super group” I.O.I. Chungha shone as the girls dropped song after song. The group’s popularity inspired the companies to create more seasons. Her popularity helped her get a jump on a solo career that had her tearing up the KCON stages in 2018.
She was chosen as one of the seven members for a special sub-unit, releasing the track “Whatta Man” and from the three teams they were looking at, Chungha’s group was chosen to lead the choreography. The track was a major success in I.O.I’s career. For fans of 90’s girl groups, this would be a great song to check out. You’ll easily note the familiar Salt n Pepa tune by the same name at the beginning of this empowering track.
Chungha and the other girls of I.O.I confirmed that through fans’ demands they will be returning for an I.O.I reunion. Honestly, the girls themselves are excited about the reunion as they have all remained close, even after parting ways. Chungha claims that if not for I.O.I, she would not be where she is now. Whether working solo or in a group, Chungha has shown so much versatility in her work. I can’t wait to see what she and the girls of I.O.I have in store for us!
