Sun Mi was born May 2, 1992. She’s had a successful academic career, culminating in her attendance at Dongguk University where she majors in musical theater. While in university, she took on her stepfather’s name and became Lee Sun-mi.
In May of 2006, Sunmi was introduced as the last member of JYP’s Wonder Girls. Wonder Girls quickly rose to fame with songs Tell Me, So Hot, and Nobody. A mere four years later, Sunmi left the group to focus more on her academics. In 2013 she made her official solo debut with 24 Hours and her EP Full Moon. Fans were quickly reminded just how talented Sunmi was as she earned her first all-kill that year.
Sunmi returned to Wonder Girls in 2015 just in time for their new band concept. She played the bass and co-wrote and co-produced several of Wonder Girls’ hits. Contract negotiations were unsuccessful so the group disbanded in 2017 and Sunmi signed with Makeus Entertainment, where she would go on to flourish.
The following years would see Sunmi rising to new heights as she released Gashina, Heroine, and Siren in succession. She embarked on her first world tour in February of this year and released hit single Noir in the middle of her “Warning” Tour. As the tour concluded, fans were treated to the release of another single, Lalalay. Sunmi has also appeared on JTBC’s “Secret Unnie” show in 2018 and SBS’ “Fashion King Korea” in 2014.
