Jordan’s Picks: Eric Nam

Eric Nam is easily one of my favourite solo artists! His humour and charm make him irresistible and his discography is so versatile that I can always find something to listen to no matter what mood I’m in.  Let me show you some of the reasons why this man is at the top!

Collaborations

Can’t Help Myself – Eric ft. Loco

It took me a shamefully long amount of time to discover this song but once I did I was hooked! Every time I listen to it I can’t help myself (I know…….terrible pun XD) and I have to smile.  The music video is cute and Eric’s grade A dance moves are on show.  I will never miss a chance to see that man dance and anyone who has seen him live will understand what I’m talking about ❤

Ooh Ooh – Eric ft. Hoya from INFINITE

Who doesn’t appreciate a good love song? And my Inspirit heart was very content to hear Hoya in this! Leaving off the fact that this song is catchy as all get out, the entire song is about how in love he is with the girl and asking her to trust herself to him.  “I’ll be the wings on your back” is probably one of the sweetest lyrics I’ve ever heard and hearing Eric sing it makes me very soft.

Isn’t There?/I Wonder – Eric ft. Playback

I actually found this song through my love of Playback (if you haven’t listened to them, you should go show those amazing girls some love)! I don’t know that I’ve ever found a more relatable song in my life.  This song is about a girl and a guy who are looking for love but they haven’t found the right person.  Everyone they talk to is boring or quits talking to them and they haven’t been able to form a connection.  So they ask “Isn’t there a person like that?” and search for someone who is good for them and who they can fall for. Sound familiar?

Solo Songs

Hold Me

This song came out in 2017 and completely blew me away.  I was not prepared at all for it to hit me like I did and I cried for five straight minutes the first time I heard it.  9 times out of 10 I still cry listening to it but it’s my favourite of all his solo songs.  There’s just something about the depth of the emotion that it evokes that I can’t get enough of.  I can’t put my finger on exactly what keeps bringing me back to it, but I listen to this song at least once a week, if not more.

Don’t Call Me

Eric’s Honestly album dropped in 2018 and I’ve never been more obsessed with an album in my life.  It took me months to listen to anything else and it was my first Eric Nam physical album purchase.  I couldn’t get enough of it and, while not a title track, the sassy anthem Don’t Call Me easily tops the list for me on this masterpiece.  It gives such a realistic look to breakups and the effect they have and it’s just a really fun song.  Hearing it live on Eric’s Honestly tour and bopping around with the crowd was an absolutely fantastic experience!

Interview

Man, could Eric make me any softer? Interview is not about getting  a job, but about wanting to get to know a girl and asking her some questions (like an interview).  Eric says she doesn’t need to be nervous when she’s with him and that she looks “so fine”.  He talks about being nervous himself and preparing a lot so it would be natural.  This song practically floats through your senses and it makes me so incredibly soft whenever I listen to it.

I could sit here and wax poetic about Eric’s songs all day.  He has an incredible range and evokes so many different emotions in his fans with his performances.  From the very first song, I couldn’t stop myself from falling in love and I’ve never looked back since. Eric Nam is hands down my favourite solo artist and I’m excited to see him on tour again tomorrow!
