Throughout his career with BTS, V has released several solo songs both to feature on albums and as digital singles.
In 2016, the Wings album dropped and V’s song “Stigma” was released. This song reached number 10 on the Billboard charts and peaked at 26th on the Gaon chart. There are a lot of fan theories as to what “Stigma” means, but the most popular is that V feels guilty for not being there for his siblings and this song was written as an apology for the burden his ‘stigma’ brought them.
Fast forward two years and BTS’ album Love Yourself: Tear came out. Second in the trio of albums whose versions spell LOVE YOURSELF, this album included V’s “Singularity” as the intro song. Featuring a smooth, gritty video, V sings about losing himself and burying his voice for someone else. “Singularity” hit number 10 on the K-pop Hot 100 and reached third on the Billboard charts.
Just this year, Map of the Soul: 7 was released and fans were gifted with V’s “Inner Child”. Topping the Billboard charts at number 6, V sings a song of hope as he looks back on rough times in his past. He reminisces on the tough times but gives a message of hope to his younger self by saying “we gon’ change.”
V’s digital singles include “95 Graduation” with Jimin, “4 O’Clock” with Namjoon, “Scenery” and “Winter Bear”. Of the four, “Scenery” is my favourite. It’s such a pretty, heartwarming song and it’s so soothing to listen to after a long day. V’s voice has such a clear tone and “Scenery” allows him to really show off his smooth singing.
